Minor Solution to your Armor Preview Woes
If you haven't thought of this, you can preview armor in game. All you have to do is:
1. Borrow the armor of the same profession. It does not matter what gender you get the armor from, as long as the armor is for the profession you are testing (i.e. A male ele can preview a female ele's Fow Top, but he cannot preview a mesmer's armor pieces)
2. Have lots of trust with the person you are borrowing with. Since you are previewing armor, maybe you can trade a piece of your elite armor for theirs, just as an act of trust.
3. Apply a dye as if you are going to color your armor.
Voila, problem solved! However, you should keep in mind that this works on ONE piece of armor. That means you can dye preview a piece of the armor you want (So, if you don't have FOW, you can only preview it piece by piece, not by the entire set.)
P.S. This also works for Eye of the North pieces (Dread mask, Dragon Gauntlets, Chaos Gloves, Mo Zing.) Just remember to borrow the armor that is of your profession, or you will just see a naked armor preview.

I mean, that's pretty neat to find out, but what would really be great is something that lets you preview armor while also mixing and matching. It's cool to come up with armor combinations that look good together but aren't part of the same set. What sucks is that Anet has yet to implement such a system, even though such a system of sorts is already in place with the armor creation menu for PvP characters. If they were to export that system somewhere else, like in Lions Arch, Kamadan, Kaineng, for example, and allow ALL armor types, not just the ones unlocked by reward points, then you would have a true mix and match system available to preview armor.
The system they could use is already in place. And honestly, it's something people have been asking for, for a long time, just as it took a long time for armor dye previews to become available.

Well, all we need now is a way to do so without the help of other player.
For example:
- Go to crafter.
- Click piece.
- Click preview.
- Preview panel appears, and you can eve use your dyes to try colors.
Heh, there you are, something to add for August.

Just for the record, this also works with weapons / shields if they're customized to your friend as well

also you can just pop into your HOM set the view to account wide and if say:
for example you have an elementalist with Obsidian armour and youve gone in with a different profession character, you would then see that armour set on the current character for their proffession of course
and again it also takes the colour for the statues of the armour that you are wearing yourself
*i gave that example cos my ele may be tempting my mesmer :P ...eep*

/signed on this,
maybe in the side panel where the dyes usually are you can scroll through pieces of armor, with a drop down panal with the different armor parts in it
